Weight Reduction Programme
Is weight loss an important health goal for yourself?
Have you tried various diets and exercises only to find that there’s limited results?
If you’re struggling with weight loss and you’re looking for a solution to help you attain your ideal weight, you might want to consider the Intragastric Balloon Placement procedure
What’s the Intragastric Balloon Placement about?
In this procedure, a silicone balloon that is filled with saline is placed in your stomach, limiting the amount of food you can take in thus resulting in weight loss. Weight loss helps to lower the risk of contracting weight related health problems such as type 2 diabetes, heart diseases, high blood pressure, among others.
During the procedure, a tube that contains the intragastric balloon is placed in the stomach through the throat. An endoscope, a flexible tube with a camera, is also inserted down the throat to allow the doctor to see the balloon as saline is filled into it.
This procedure does not require you to be hospitalised and you can go home after an hour or two when the procedure is finished.
How does the Intragastric Balloon help with weight loss?
As the intragastric balloon is placed in your stomach, you will fill fuller more quickly and take in less food. It slows down the time it takes to empty the stomach and changes the levels of hormones that affects your appetite.
While the intragastric balloon helps with weight loss, it’s also important for patients to continue with lifestyle changes such as having healthy eating habits and being committed to regular exercise. It’s important to note that the intragastric balloon is not a fix-all for problems with weight loss.
Post procedure
After around 6 hours post-procedure, you can have clear liquids in your diet. For the first three days, you should only have a liquid diet as your body adjusts to the intragastric balloon. From day fourth to 10 days, you can have soft diet. After 10 days, you may start to eat regular foods again.
Intragastric balloons have to be removed or changed after a few months. For specific recommendations, please speak to our doctors.
